ISLAMABAD: The skyline of Islamabad is poised for a dramatic transformation as the Pakistan Airport Authority moves forward with plans to construct what could become the tallest building in the federal capital. The proposed mega project, to be built in the heart of Blue Area, is expected to redefine the city’s commercial and architectural landscape.

The authority owns a 9,000-square-yard plot in Blue Area, where it intends to develop a state-of-the-art multi-storey office and aviation complex. Designed as a flagship project, the tower will serve as a central hub for aviation, business and hospitality under one roof.

According to project documents submitted to the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency, the Aviation Complex is envisioned as Islamabad’s tallest high-rise. The building will house PAA offices, airline headquarters, conference halls, corporate spaces, banks, fitness facilities, food courts, a day care center, an aviation museum, an art gallery and a luxury hotel.

The environmental approval process is already underway. PEPA has issued a public notice inviting comments from citizens and stakeholders, while a public hearing is scheduled for May 18 at Crown Hotel Islamabad. The consultation marks a significant step before construction begins on the ambitious project.

Currently, Islamabad’s tallest under-construction tower is the Garden Residential Apartment Project in F-10 Markaz, rising to 470 feet with 42 storeys. Other major landmarks include The Centaurus and One Constitution Avenue, both prominent features of the capital’s evolving skyline.

Officials of the Capital Development Authority confirmed that the building plan has been approved, clearing the way for the Pakistan Airport Authority to launch one of the most ambitious construction projects in Islamabad’s history. If completed as envisioned, the Aviation Complex could become a new symbol of Pakistan’s growing aviation and business ambitions.
