ISLAMABAD: In a significant anti corruption breakthrough, the National Accountability Bureau has secured the transfer of thousands of kanals of amenity and public utility land from private housing societies to the Capital Development Authority, reclaiming assets worth billions for the state.
The move comes after years of regulatory lapses and alleged misuse of land designated for public facilities. Officials said the intervention aims to restore planning integrity and ensure that land meant for community use is no longer diverted for private gain.
In the first phase, more than 6,400 kanals of land from major housing schemes including Gulberg Residencia and Margalla View have been formally transferred to the CDA. A high level registration process has been completed, marking a major administrative milestone in land recovery efforts.
Authorities estimate the total value of the reclaimed land at around Rs66 billion, combining official and market valuations. The recovery is being viewed as one of the largest enforcement actions targeting irregularities in housing society developments in recent years.
Officials confirmed that additional transfers involving thousands of kanals are already in advanced stages and are expected to be finalised soon. Long pending cases, including disputes that remained unresolved for decades, are now being processed under a coordinated framework involving multiple agencies.
The development signals a tougher stance against land misuse and highlights renewed efforts to bring transparency to urban development. With further recoveries in the pipeline, regulators aim to set a precedent that strengthens accountability and protects public assets across the real estate sector.
