Pakistan has stepped back into the global liquefied natural gas market with renewed urgency as Pakistan LNG Limited issues a fresh tender to secure immediate cargo supplies. The move reflects growing pressure on the country’s energy system as demand rises and supply uncertainties persist.

According to an official notice released on Wednesday, Pakistan LNG Limited has invited international suppliers to submit bids for two LNG cargoes scheduled for delivery later this month at Port Qasim in Karachi. The procurement will be carried out on a Delivered Ex Ship basis, ensuring suppliers handle transportation and delivery responsibilities.

The tender outlines tight delivery windows, with the first cargo expected between May 12 and 14, followed by a second shipment between May 24 and 26, 2026. Each cargo will carry a volume of 140000 cubic metres, indicating a significant short term effort to stabilize gas availability across the country.

Pakistan LNG Limited operates as a key government entity under the Ministry of Energy Petroleum Division and is wholly owned by Government Holdings Private Limited. The company plays a central role in managing the entire LNG supply chain, from international procurement to domestic distribution and delivery to end users.

This latest tender follows a similar move last month when the company sought three LNG cargoes amid disruptions in global supply routes and rising domestic shortages. That tender attracted four bids from international suppliers, highlighting continued interest in Pakistan’s LNG market despite volatility.

In a parallel development, Azerbaijan’s state energy firm SOCAR has expressed readiness to supply LNG to Pakistan under a 2025 framework agreement. The arrangement is expected to streamline future purchases and provide quicker access to spot cargoes, potentially easing supply constraints and strengthening Pakistan’s energy security in the months ahead.
