ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority Mazdoor Union has issued a stern warning to the CDA administration, threatening to launch a citywide protest campaign if employees are denied Eid allowances and other long-pending financial benefits ahead of Eidul Azha.
The warning was delivered during a high-level meeting of the union’s Advisory Council chaired by Aurangzeb Khan. The session was attended by General Secretary Chaudhary Muhammad Yaseen, Chairman Raja Shakir Zaman Kiani, Supreme Head Mirza Saeed Akhtar, senior labour leaders, CBA representatives and a large number of CDA workers.
Union leaders said frustration was growing rapidly among employees due to continued delays in resolving critical welfare issues. They demanded immediate approval of Eid allowances, overtime payments for sanitation and field staff, release of pending summaries, and restoration of house-building and motorcycle advances.
The meeting also called for allotment of residential plots and government accommodation to deserving workers. Speakers said many employees were performing extra duties in difficult conditions without receiving lawful overtime compensation, while several sanctioned posts were being abolished despite severe staff shortages.
Chaudhary Muhammad Yaseen said the CDA administration had regularly paid Eid allowances under a formal agreement signed with the Mazdoor Union in 2006. He warned that withholding the benefit before Eidul Azha would amount to a serious injustice to thousands of workers and their families.
The Advisory Council unanimously urged the CDA chairman and board members to issue an immediate notification for Eid allowance payments and convene an emergency meeting to address employees’ concerns. Union leaders warned that if their demands continue to be ignored, workers will take to the streets across Islamabad in what could become one of the largest labour protests in the authority’s recent history.
