ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is planning to introduce Electric double-decker buses to provide a dedicated sightseeing service for residents and visitors exploring Islamabad.
The proposed service will operate on a dedicated circuit connecting more than 15 recreational, scenic, and heritage destinations across the capital. Planned stops include Lake View Park, Shakarparian, Pakistan Monument, Faisal Mosque, Daman-i-Koh and D-Chowk, along with other attractions.
According to the CDA, the initiative is intended to provide a modern and organised transport option for families, students, senior citizens, tourists and people who do not have private transportation.
Each bus will have a maximum capacity of 90 passengers, including 67 seats. The buses will also feature low-floor boarding facilities and dedicated wheelchair spaces to improve accessibility for passengers with disabilities.
The proposed electric buses will be equipped with air conditioning and modern braking, stability, and suspension systems to provide a comfortable sightseeing experience.
The CDA says the buses will be zero-emission vehicles, combining tourism with more environmentally friendly urban mobility. The service is expected to provide visitors with an easier way to explore several attractions without arranging separate transportation for each destination.
The initiative follows the CDA Board’s approval of a proposal to procure four double-decker buses for tourism in Islamabad.
The authority has not yet announced the fares, operating frequency, designated boarding points, or official launch date of the sightseeing service.
The project is part of broader efforts to improve Islamabad’s tourism and recreational infrastructure while introducing modern and environmentally responsible transportation options.
