LAHORE (September 24): Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan chaired a high-level meeting with a representative delegation of the All Pakistan Goods Transporters Alliance in Lahore on 09-24-2026 to address key operational challenges, streamline national transport policies, and enhance sector efficiency. The delegation, led by Alliance President Malik Shehzad Awan, included prominent representatives Qamar-uz-Zaman, Nisar Jafri, Owais Chaudhry, Bakhtawar Khan, and Azhar Siraj. Senior government officials, including the Secretary for Communications, Inspector General (IG) National Highways & Motorway Police, and Chairman National Highway Authority, attended the meeting via video link and provided comprehensive briefings on critical policy matters.
During the discussion, the representatives of the All Pakistan Goods Transporters Alliance expressed their appreciation to Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan for the improved conduct, professionalism, and supportive behavior of the Motorway Police personnel on the roads. Emphasizing the government’s commitment to preserving national infrastructure, Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan issued strict directives to authorities for a more effective and rigid implementation of the Axle Load Management Policy across the national road network. He reiterated that no leniency, exception, or compromise will be tolerated regarding axle load limits and heavy vehicle overload violations under any circumstances.
To ensure strict compliance with road traffic laws and safety standards, the meeting extensively deliberated on empowering the Motorway Police to directly register First Information Reports (FIRs) against serious traffic and overloading violations.
Furthermore, Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan instructed officials to construct an integrated framework by bringing key institutional stakeholders on board, including the Ministry of Industries, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), and other relevant government departments.
Addressing specific industry concerns, the transporters highlighted operational difficulties associated with freight logistics for cement factories. In response, the Federal Minister directed the Secretary for Communications to immediately engage in dialogue with the provincial governments of Punjab and Sindh to resolve these issues swiftly. He emphasized to ministry officials that goods transporters should face no administrative hurdles or grievances from the Ministry of Communications, instructing that a follow-up consultative session be convened on September 30. The meeting concluded with the All Pakistan Goods Transporters Alliance expressing complete trust and satisfaction in the measures announced by Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan while pledging full cooperation with the government.
