A 7.5 km road will connect Margalla Avenue with IJP Road and include around 17 bridges and overpasses
ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) Development Working Party has approved a Rs24.5 billion PC-I for the construction of 11th Avenue, a major road project planned to improve connectivity across Islamabad.
According to the approved project details, the proposed 7.5-kilometre avenue will connect Margalla Avenue with IJP Road. The road is planned with three lanes on each side, while around 17 bridges and overpasses are included in the project.
The planned route will pass through areas between I-10 and I-11, G-10, G-11, F-10 and F-11, before reaching the E-11 interchange. A section extending from E-11 towards D-12 has already been completed and is currently known as Iran Avenue.
The CDA has indicated that the project is expected to be completed within one year after the commencement of work. The foundation stone for 11th Avenue was laid in June 2023, but construction did not begin at that time.
Alongside the road project, the CDA Development Working Party also approved PC-Is worth approximately Rs1 billion for three sports arenas in Islamabad.
The proposed sports facilities will be developed in F-8, D-12 and G-11. The facilities are planned to include swimming pools, indoor gyms, futsal courts, cricket cages, padel courts, basketball courts, multi-sports halls and indoor children’s play areas.
The three sports arenas have individual estimated costs of Rs307 million for F-8 Markaz, Rs327 million for D-12/1 and Rs317 million for G-11/3.
The latest approval comes as work on another major Islamabad road project, 10th Avenue, remains stalled after approximately half of the work was completed. CDA officials told Dawn that the 10th Avenue project has faced funding issues.
With the approval of the 11th Avenue PC-I, Islamabad is set to see another major addition to its road network once the project moves into the construction phase
