The Capital Development Authority has formally approved the PC I for the New Islamabad Convention Expo and Exhibition Centre, a landmark project valued at Rs19.3 billion. This ambitious initiative positions Islamabad to host major international events with modern facilities that match global standards. The approval marks a significant milestone in the city’s long term development plans and reflects the growing importance of Islamabad as a regional diplomatic and economic hub.
Sources informed Infra News that the new centre is proposed for construction along Murree Road and Club Road near Faizabad. The strategic location has been chosen to ensure smooth accessibility, enhanced visibility and efficient mobility for delegates and visitors. The project is being actively pursued to prepare Islamabad for the 2027 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit, which Pakistan will host in the federal capital. Officials believe that the facility will play a central role in accommodating high level meetings and global delegations.
According to the working paper presented at the DWP meeting chaired by Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, the New Islamabad Convention Expo and Exhibition Centre will be developed as a world class multifunctional complex. It is planned to host conventions, international expos, trade fairs, public exhibitions, cultural programs and large scale corporate events. The centre will serve as a state of the art platform for showcasing Pakistan’s economic potential and emerging industries.
The CDA expects the facility to become a sustainable long term revenue generating asset. Income streams are projected through event hosting, exhibition rentals, service contracts, hospitality related operations and increased tourism activity. Officials believe the centre will attract local and international businesses while strengthening Islamabad’s position as a major destination for trade and cultural engagement.
The PC I outlines a complete architectural, engineering and operational framework for the development of the facility. It includes modern halls, conference rooms, exhibition spaces, administrative offices and visitor amenities designed to meet global standards of comfort and functionality.
