Inquiry launched as CDA intensifies action against encroachments, unauthorised construction and land-use violations across Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has suspended a Range Officer in the Bhara Kahu zone over allegations that he failed to report unauthorised construction in his area.

According to a CDA official, an inquiry has been initiated to establish the facts surrounding the construction of a house and determine the role of the suspended officer.

The action comes as the CDA Environment Wing continues to take disciplinary measures against officials over alleged inefficiency and misconduct. The authority has already taken action against several officials in recent days.

Two officials from the same Bhara Kahu zone were previously suspended over alleged misconduct, while an urban-area official was issued a show-cause notice over an allegation involving a bribe related to dumping. These allegations remain subject to the relevant proceedings.

Meanwhile, the CDA is continuing its wider anti-encroachment operation across Islamabad. The campaign is targeting encroachments on public and state land, unauthorised construction, illegal commercial activities, non-conforming land use and construction carried out without approved plans.

The authority’s Enforcement Directorate and Building Control formations are carrying out operations in coordination with the District Administration and other relevant departments.

Officials including the Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) and concerned Assistant Commissioners are also monitoring operations in different areas of the capital.

The CDA said cases involving regularisation, approval, change of land use or payment of prescribed charges will be dealt with by the competent authorities according to applicable rules and regulations.

The latest suspension indicates that the ongoing enforcement drive is also placing greater focus on the performance and responsibilities of officials tasked with monitoring land-use and construction activities in Islamabad.

The inquiry into the Bhara Kahu case will determine the facts surrounding the alleged unauthorised construction and the suspended officer’s role.
