Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to give the iconic Faisal Mosque a fresh look by undertaking a major repainting project of its interior and exterior surfaces. The facelift, estimated to cost around Rs19.7 million, will cover the entire structure of Pakistan’s largest and most recognizable mosque.
According to CDA officials, the project involves repainting the mosque’s walls, applying weather-resistant coatings to the exterior, and polishing woodwork and other decorative features to restore the building’s original brightness. The work is expected to begin later this year following the completion of bidding formalities.
Located at the foothills of Margalla Hills, Faisal Mosque remains one of Islamabad’s most visited landmarks. Designed by Turkish architect Vedat Dalokay and completed in 1986, the mosque was a gift from the late King Faisal bin Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia, after whom it is named. Its distinctive tent-shaped structure and eight-sided sloping roof make it a unique symbol of modern Islamic architecture.
Over the years, the CDA has carried out periodic maintenance and preservation works at the site to maintain its pristine appearance. Officials said the upcoming repainting effort is part of the authority’s plan to preserve national heritage buildings and ensure their upkeep in line with Islamabad’s aesthetic standards.
