ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with 14 prominent public and private sector organizations under its flagship Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET) Placement Program. The signing ceremony, held in Islamabad, was attended by PEC Chairman Engr. Waseem Nazir and senior representatives from the partner institutions.

The organizations joining hands with PEC under this initiative include Frontier Works Organization (FWO), Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), Tunneling Institute of Pakistan (TIP), National Institute of Electronics (NIE), National Electronics Complex of Pakistan (NECOP), National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC), Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation (PMDC), Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT), Heavy Mechanical Complex (HMC), Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF), Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), PAKSAT International, and the Pakistan Housing Authority Foundation (PHAF).

Speaking at the event, Chairman PEC Engr. Waseem Nazir said the GET Program is a structured initiative aimed at providing practical exposure and real-world experience to fresh engineering graduates. “This program will help young engineers enhance their professional competence, contribute effectively to national development, and acquire the skills required to meet the evolving demands of the industry,” he said.

He added that similar partnerships have already been established with major organizations in other regions, underscoring PEC’s commitment to expanding the program across the country.

Representatives of the partner organizations lauded PEC’s efforts, terming the GET initiative a visionary step that bridges the gap between academic learning and professional practice. They noted that the collaboration will not only produce skilled engineers but also strengthen institutional capacity and foster innovation in their respective sectors.

The GET Placement Program offers a six-month structured training period—comprising five months of hands-on field experience and one month of soft skills development.

Through this “house job”-style training model, PEC aims to improve the employability, professional competence, and industry readiness of young engineers nationwide, paving the way for a stronger and more technically capable engineering workforce for Pakistan’s future.
