Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has successfully managed to utilise land reserved for public buildings in private housing societies, as four out of a total of nine new police station buildings will be constructed within private housing schemes.
The societies that will now house the police stations include Gulberg Greens, OPF, Grace Valley, and River Garden.
In what officials described as a significant development, the civic body has effectively reclaimed and utilised land originally reserved for public facilities in the layout plans of private housing schemes—land that, in many cases, had been diverted for commercial or residential use in the past with the connivance of CDA officials.
According to official documents, a 16-kanal plot in Gulberg Greens Farm Housing Scheme on Pine Avenue South has been earmarked for the Koral Police Station. In the OPF Housing Scheme, a 3.96-kanal site located in Block-G, Street No. 10, has been designated for the Kirpa Police Station.
Similarly, in Grace Valley, a 5.38-kanal plot in Block-A, Street No. 5 has been reserved for the Humak Police Station, along with a site for a Quick Response Force (QRF) unit. Meanwhile, in River Garden, a 4.5-kanal community centre plot on Street No. 19 will now be utilised for the Lohi Bher Police Station.
In addition to these four locations, five more police stations will be constructed across various sectors of Islamabad to enhance policing facilities and improve law enforcement coverage in the rapidly expanding capital.
Currently, Islamabad has 22 police stations, many of which operate from rented or makeshift premises due to the absence of purpose-built buildings. The construction of nine new police stations will not only reduce this shortfall but also help improve operational efficiency and public access to law enforcement facilities in the capital.
Earlier this week, the CDA opened bids for the construction of these nine new police stations. According to the project’s PC-I, the buildings are expected to be completed within six months of commencement. The new purpose-built facilities will replace the makeshift structures currently in use.
The nine police stations covered under the project include Shams Colony, Khanna, Humak, Koral, Nilor, Sangjani, Kirpa, Phulgran, and Lohi Bher.
CDA officials said the estimated cost for all nine buildings stood at Rs966 million. However, the bids received were reportedly 15 to 25 percent lower than the initial estimates, offering potential savings for the authority.
Separately, the Bani Gala Police Station will be constructed by the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) at Margalla Enclave—a joint venture between the CDA and DHA.
Meanwhile, the CDA has also begun renovating existing police stations in the capital. In the first phase, renovation work at six police stations is nearing completion, with design upgrades aimed at improving backend operations. In the second phase, nine more police stations will undergo renovation and aesthetic improvements.
