The federal government has unveiled a comprehensive plan to transform the Kohsar Complex into a clean green and smoke free government facility aimed at improving working conditions and public service standards. The initiative focuses on enhanced cleanliness better parking management smooth lift operations and a healthier environment for employees and visitors.
The plan was discussed during a high level meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry. The session followed an earlier meeting held in July that highlighted urgent repair and maintenance challenges at the complex which houses several key federal ministries and departments in Islamabad’s Red Zone.
Senior officials including secretaries and joint secretaries from ministries operating within the Kohsar Complex attended the meeting. Participants shared concerns over recurring operational issues such as traffic congestion poor parking discipline malfunctioning lifts and the absence of basic amenities including a cafeteria or coffee shop for staff and visitors.
While proposals to expand parking space were discussed the meeting agreed that efficient management of existing space should be prioritised before any physical expansion. The minister stressed that coordinated management and better use of available resources could resolve many long standing problems without major structural changes.
Addressing the gathering Minister Junaid Chaudhry said the Kohsar Complex represents the face of public governance and must reflect order professionalism and environmental responsibility. He emphasised aligning the facility with broader government goals on sustainability climate resilience and workplace well being.
Officials also proposed a structured division of responsibilities among ministries to ensure consistent maintenance and cleanliness. It was suggested that cleaning and maintenance could be outsourced with shared budgetary contributions. The meeting concluded with consensus on moving toward clear timelines and practical steps to improve daily operations making the Kohsar Complex a more efficient welcoming and environmentally responsible government facility.
