ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced a reduction in petroleum product prices across the board, offering some relief to consumers amid ongoing inflationary pressures. The revised rates will take effect from midnight tonight (October 16, 2025), according to a notification issued by the Finance Division.
The decision was made following recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and consultations with the relevant ministries. According to the notification, the price of petrol (MS) has been reduced by Rs 5.66 per litre, bringing it down from Rs 268.68 to Rs 263.02 per litre.
Similarly, the price of High-Speed Diesel (HSD) has been lowered by Rs 1.39 per litre, now priced at Rs 275.41 against the previous rate of Rs 276.81. The government has also decreased the price of Superior Kerosene Oil (SKO) by Rs 3.26, setting the new rate at Rs 181.71 per litre, while Light Diesel Oil (LDO) has been reduced by Rs 2.74, bringing it down to Rs 162.76 per litre.
The Finance Division stated that the price adjustments reflect recent trends in the international oil market and the appreciation of the Pakistani rupee against the US dollar, which collectively contributed to the downward revision.
This marks the second consecutive fortnightly decrease in petroleum prices, signaling stability in global crude prices and an improvement in the country’s import cost management. Analysts expect the decline in fuel prices to slightly ease transportation and production costs in the coming weeks.
The new prices will remain effective for the next fortnight, after which OGRA will again review international price movements and exchange rate fluctuations to make fresh recommendations to the government.
