ISLAMABAD: A new Specialised Research Centre for Aerospace, Energy, and Advanced Manufacturing is being established in Islamabad, marking a major addition to Pakistan’s scientific and industrial infrastructure.
The announcement was made during the International Symposium on Advanced Materials (ISAM-2025), where federal and academic stakeholders outlined plans for a multidisciplinary hub focused on aerospace technologies, renewable energy systems, additive manufacturing, and materials characterisation.
The centre will be jointly developed by key research institutions and supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology, with the objective of enhancing Pakistan’s capacity in high-tech engineering and industrial innovation. It is expected to serve as a bridge between academia and industry, providing state-of-the-art facilities for applied research, product testing, and collaboration with private-sector manufacturers.
Officials said the initiative aims to position Islamabad as a regional leader in advanced research and contribute to import substitution in high-value industrial components. Training programs, fellowships, and technology transfer partnerships are also planned under the project’s second phase.
Experts at the symposium emphasised that Pakistan’s growing energy and aviation sectors require sustained research investment to achieve self-reliance. The establishment of the centre, they noted, will strengthen national capabilities in developing next-generation materials and technologies aligned with global sustainability standards.
The facility is expected to begin operations by mid-2026, following equipment procurement and faculty appointments.
