RAWALPINDI: Continuous rainfall across Murree and major highways has triggered a high alert, prompting the City Traffic Police Murree and the National Highways and Motorway Police to issue a strict driving advisory to prevent accidents and ensure public safety.

The advisory covers key routes including the Islamabad Lahore Motorway, GT Road, Islamabad Peshawar Motorway and Hazara Expressway, where wet conditions have made roads slippery and hazardous for commuters. Authorities warned that reduced visibility and water accumulation could significantly increase the risk of road mishaps.

Motorway Police officials urged drivers to slow down and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. They emphasised the importance of keeping headlights and wipers fully functional and strictly avoiding sudden braking. Drivers have also been advised to stay focused and refrain from using mobile phones while driving.

In Murree’s hilly terrain, the situation is more critical as continuous rain raises the risk of landslides. The City Traffic Police warned tourists and residents to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in vulnerable mountainous areas where road conditions can deteriorate rapidly.

Travelers have been advised to ensure their vehicles are in proper condition, particularly tyres, brakes, and wipers. Use of fog lights during heavy rain or low visibility conditions has also been strongly recommended to enhance road safety.

Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious and stay updated on weather conditions before traveling. In case of emergencies, citizens can contact the Motorway Police helpline 130 or the Murree traffic helpline for immediate assistance, as officials continue to monitor the situation closely.
