ISLAMABAD: Acting on the instructions of the Prime Minister, the federal government has initiated steps for the construction of a new international standard convention centre in Islamabad to enhance the capital’s capacity to host major global events. The project aims to position Islamabad as a competitive destination for high level international conferences and diplomatic summits.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the proposed site near the Murree Road Bhara Kahu Bypass to personally review the location and assess ground realities. During the visit, the minister examined the land in detail and issued on the spot directives to ensure smooth and timely execution of the project in line with international benchmarks.
Mohsin Naqvi ordered the immediate removal of all forms of illegal encroachments from the proposed site. He directed the concerned authorities to take indiscriminate legal action against all encroachers, making it clear that no individual or group would be given preferential treatment under any circumstances.
The interior minister also instructed officials to demolish all illegal constructions within the project area. He categorically stated that no compensation or concessions would be granted to those occupying the land unlawfully, emphasizing the government’s zero tolerance policy against encroachments in the federal capital.
Reaffirming the government’s vision, Mohsin Naqvi said providing international standard facilities in Islamabad remains a key priority. He added that the new convention centre would significantly strengthen Pakistan’s ability to host major international gatherings, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit and other global conferences.
Chairman Capital Development Authority Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon, and other senior officials were present during the site visit. Authorities were directed to ensure full coordination among departments to accelerate the project and maintain transparency throughout the development process.
