MURREE: Following directives from the Chief Minister of Punjab, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has successfully installed fully functional fire hydrants along Mall Road in Murree, enhancing the town’s emergency response infrastructure. Managing Director WASA Murree, Azeem Shaukat, confirmed the operational readiness of the newly installed fire safety system.
In a joint demonstration with Rescue 1122, officials showcased the effectiveness of the fire hydrants and coordinated emergency procedures to ensure rapid response in case of fire or other hazards. The initiative underscores the importance of preparedness in tourist-heavy areas, where prompt action can save lives and property.
The step comes in the wake of a recent tragic incident in Lahore, where a minor girl fell into an uncovered manhole, highlighting gaps in emergency preparedness and infrastructure safety. WASA officials emphasized that lessons learned from the Lahore incident have prompted stricter safety audits, proactive installation of hydrants, and enhanced monitoring to prevent similar accidents in other cities, including Murree.
Managing Director WASA Murree stressed that the fire hydrants installed on Mall Road are fully active and capable of handling emergencies efficiently. The system has been tested for functionality and readiness to support both residential and commercial establishments in the area.
The Punjab government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening fire safety measures across the province. This includes the deployment of modern firefighting infrastructure, improved coordination with emergency services, and regular drills to enhance preparedness among local authorities and first responders.
