RAWALPINDI: The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Rawalpindi has launched an ambitious citywide initiative to improve the condition of 52 public parks and fully renovate four major recreational spaces by next month. The step aims to enhance urban greenery and provide healthier outdoor environments for residents of the garrison city.
According to PHA Director General Ahmed Hassan Ranjha, detailed surveys have been initiated to introduce modern designs, upgraded facilities, and colourful seasonal flower arrangements. Special focus is being given to Liaquat Bagh, Allama Iqbal Park, Rawal Park on Rawal Road, and the Public Park near Chaklala Railway Station to transform them into modern recreational hubs.
Alongside major renovations, all remaining neighborhood parks will also be upgraded to improve infrastructure, landscaping, and public amenities. While routine maintenance is being managed through PHA’s internal resources, additional funding from the Punjab provincial government has been requested to support large-scale renovation and expansion work.
The authority has also completed major beautification work along Murree Road and developed free sports courts under the 6th Road and Chandni Chowk flyovers. These facilities are being offered on a first-come, first-served basis to encourage youth participation in healthy and constructive outdoor activities.
To further uplift the city’s appearance, a comprehensive green belt restoration campaign has been launched across Rawalpindi. Given the increasing number of park visitors during winter mornings and afternoons, PHA is strengthening cleanliness, seating facilities, lighting systems, and floral landscaping to improve the visitor experience.
In Murree, the PHA has prepared a detailed beautification strategy, including the renovation of Bagh-i-Shaheedan and PIA Park. Winter flower plantations from Jhika Gali to Kashmir Point and the installation of energy-efficient LED lighting are expected to significantly enhance the tourist appeal and night-time ambience of the hill resort.
