ISLAMABAD: In a major push to secure funding for one of the country’s largest healthcare projects, the federal cabinet has approved the allocation of 51 kanal commercial land in E Eleven sector to support the financial sustainability of the Jinnah Medical Complex planned in H Eleven.

The decision, approved through a summary moved by the Ministry of Interior, directs the Capital Development Authority to transfer the land to the Ministry of National Health Services free of cost. Officials say the move is aimed at generating long term revenue streams for the mega health project.

Sources revealed that the land holds significant value and may be utilised either through commercial development or auction. The proceeds are expected to fund construction and operational costs of the Jinnah Medical Complex, reducing reliance on external financing.

The land has a controversial past, having been illegally allotted to local landlords decades ago before being reclaimed through joint efforts by the National Accountability Bureau and the CDA. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had praised the recovery and directed its use for public welfare, particularly healthcare.

The Jinnah Medical Complex project, with an approved cost of Rs212 billion, will be developed in two phases. The first phase includes construction of a state of the art hospital, while the second phase will add a medical college, hostels and allied facilities to create a comprehensive healthcare hub.

Officials say the project is now back on track after earlier delays due to land disputes at its initial site. With tendering underway and key decisions finalised, the government aims to fast track the project, promising free and high quality medical treatment for deserving patients across the country.
