ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek i Insaf Islamabad has launched a strong condemnation of recent demolition drives in Saidpur, Bari Imam, Malpur and several Christian settlements, calling the actions devastating and deeply unjust as tensions escalate over forced evictions in the federal capital.

Regional President Aamir Mughal alleged that the scale of destruction mirrors historic devastation, claiming entire communities are being uprooted without due process. He accused the current administration of targeting residents in areas where political support was not extended during the 2024 general elections.

In a sharply worded statement, Mughal named senior political figures, including Members of the National Assembly Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Raja Khurram Nawaz and Anjum Aqeel Khan, alleging coordination with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in executing what he described as selective operations against local populations.

He argued that many of the affected families have lived on ancestral lands for generations and were inadequately compensated during land acquisitions carried out in the 1960s. According to him, several residents are still awaiting full compensation or alternative housing, raising serious concerns over legal and humanitarian obligations.

Mughal also highlighted the plight of Christian communities residing in informal settlements, stating that their displacement ignores their longstanding contribution to the city’s workforce. He termed the situation a growing humanitarian crisis that demands urgent attention at both national and international levels.

Calling for immediate intervention, the PTI leader urged the higher judiciary and global bodies including the United Nations to take notice. He stressed that no eviction should take place without fair compensation and proper resettlement, warning that continued demolitions risk deepening social unrest in Islamabad.
