ISLAMABAD: Serious security lapses at the Parliament Lodges have triggered high level concern, with Deputy Chairman Senate Syedal Khan Nasir ordering an immediate investigation and summoning key officials for accountability.

Chairing an emergency meeting at Parliament House, the deputy chairman expressed strong displeasure over reports of unauthorised individuals entering the residential complex. He termed the situation a serious threat to lawmakers and directed authorities to submit a comprehensive report within three days.

Officials from the Capital Development Authority and security departments have been instructed to provide detailed records of complaints received from residents and the actions taken so far. The directive comes amid growing frustration among senators over repeated incidents and lack of response.

Mr Nasir also criticised the poor state of infrastructure, particularly malfunctioning lifts and delayed renovation work. Recalling his own experience of being stuck in a lift, he described the situation as an administrative failure and questioned the lack of urgency in addressing basic maintenance issues.

Cleanliness conditions also came under scrutiny, with the deputy chairman highlighting an alarming rodent problem and calling the environment deplorable. He further ordered an inquiry into a viral social media video showing an unrelated individual gaining access to the premises, raising fresh questions about security protocols.

Demanding full transparency, Mr Nasir sought complete allotment records and updates on the delayed construction of 104 new residential blocks. He directed immediate corrective measures, stressing that no compromise would be tolerated on the safety and dignity of residents, as authorities race to restore confidence in one of the capital’s most sensitive residential zones.
