New body will oversee infrastructure planning, project execution and federal assets while building a central database of government land and buildings.
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the Pakistan Infrastructure Development and Assets Management Authority Bill, 2026, paving the way for a new central body to improve the planning, execution and management of public infrastructure projects and federal government assets.
The new authority is designed to bring greater coordination to infrastructure development and improve the way major public projects and government assets are planned and managed.
Under the approved law, the authority will work to ensure better coordination among development projects, strengthen the maintenance of infrastructure assets and create a comprehensive database of federal government land and buildings.
The framework also aims to improve the management of federal assets and help prevent encroachments on government land and property. It further calls for development and construction work to follow modern standards and recognised best practices.
The new authority could provide a more centralised approach to managing federal infrastructure, particularly by bringing project planning, asset records and long-term maintenance under a stronger institutional framework.
Along with the infrastructure legislation, the President approved summaries relating to the appointment of the chairman and a member of the Federal Service Tribunal.
The Civil Servants (Amendment) Bill, 2026 was also approved. The legislation seeks to improve administrative efficiency by transferring certain routine powers currently exercised by the Prime Minister and Federal Cabinet to relevant federal secretaries or other competent authorities.
The infrastructure law marks a significant step towards creating a dedicated system for managing public infrastructure and federal assets, with a focus on better planning, coordination, records, maintenance and protection of government property.
