RAWALPINDI: A sweeping beautification drive has been launched to transform Murree into a modern and visually striking tourist destination, with major roads, intersections and key travel routes undergoing rapid upgrades.
According to district administration officials, work has begun on repainting road edges and protective walls, giving the hill station a fresh and vibrant look. Streetlights are also being redesigned with new colours while being fully restored to ensure efficient and safe illumination during night hours.
Authorities said the initiative goes beyond aesthetics, with a strong focus on improving sanitation, removing encroachments and maintaining smooth traffic flow across the city. These measures are aimed at addressing long standing urban management challenges, especially during peak tourist seasons.
Officials emphasised that the core objective is to enhance Murree’s natural charm while ensuring a safer and more comfortable experience for both tourists and residents. Improved infrastructure is expected to significantly reduce congestion and elevate the overall travel experience in the region.
With tourist inflow steadily rising, the administration is prioritising infrastructure strengthening to handle increased pressure. Efforts are underway to align urban planning, traffic systems and tourism services with modern international standards under directives from the Punjab government.
Authorities expressed confidence that once completed, the transformation will position Murree as a premier destination for both domestic and international visitors. The upgraded city is expected to offer a seamless blend of scenic beauty, safety and world class facilities, setting a new benchmark for tourism in Pakistan.
